Swimming in its final competition prior to the 2017 PCSC Championships begin on February 8, LMU competed at the PCSC Time Trials on Saturday afternoon in Malibu, Calif.
While the Lions swam a number of “off events” on Saturday, LMU showed well, winning six of the 12 events.
The only Lion swimming in the 100 butterfly, Keara Reilly finished ahead of six Pepperdine swimmers to take first place in 1:03.07. Pepperdine’s Kathrine Kuhlmann took second in 1:03.10.
The Lions dominated the 200 freestyle, finishing 1-5 in a seven-swimmer race. Taylor Anderson (1:56.50) claimed top honors, followed by Lanna Kozlowski (1:56.64), Lia Porcelli Jorgensen (1:58.53), Lauren Akin (2:03.10) and Maddie Lipkowitz (2:05.27).
Abbott returned to the water to swim the 100 breaststroke, claiming third in 1:10.54, before Maier won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.40.
It was another strong showing from the Lions in the 200 backstroke, as LMU’s Hannah Calton (2:06.10) won the race, followed by teammates Olivia Nielsen (2:16.57) and Christine Chan (2:17.33) in third and fourth, in that order.
Anderson, swimming as the lone Lion in the race, finished the day for LMU with a second-place finish in the 100 IM, touching the wall in 1:02.43.
LMU will now get ready for the four-day PCSC Championships beginning on February 8 at East LA College.
