With one day left to be contested from the 2018 PCSC Championships in La Mirada, Calif., LMU sits sixth overall after sending a handful of swimmers into evening finals on Friday night.
UC San Diego leads the pack of 13 on the women's side, carrying 1,177.5 points into Saturday's finale. Fresno Pacific sits second, followed by Cal State East Bay, Azusa Pacific and Pepperdine.
Sophomore Olivia Nielsen qualified for a pair of evening finals on Friday, reaching the races in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. After swimming a 58.41 in the prelim of the 100 butterfly, Nielsen registered a time of 58.77 in the C final to claim 21st overall. She then posted a time of 1:01.03 in the 100 backstroke prelim before finishing 32nd in the D Final with a mark of 1:03.79.
Including Nielsen's spot in the D Final, LMU's best showing came in the 100 backstroke, as a total of six Lions reached evening finals. Three LMU swimmers competed in the A Final, with Taylor Anderson taking fifth with a time of 57.90. Abby Chopp, who swam a 57.32 in the prelim to take the fifth spot in LMU's record book, followed in seventh place overall with a time of 58.27. Finally, Alyce-Faye Eichelberger earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 58.46. The C Final featured Caitlin Ryan, Tori Yee and Audrey Hixon, with Ryan posting an 18th-place finish in 59.71. She had previously managed a time of 59.58 in the morning preliminary round to qualify for the final. Yee took 20th overall in 1:00.19, followed by Hixon at 1:01.19 to take 24th. Hixon qualified for the final by way of a 1:00.95 in the morning sessions.
Three other Lions reached B Finals on Friday, as Lanna Kozlowski earned a 12th-place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.58 after swimming a 4:41.32 in the prelims. Isabel Willis took second place in the 200 freestyle final (10th overall) with a time of 1:53.13, while Marley Abbott claimed 12th overall in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:06.36. Willis' mark now ranks tied for 10th in LMU history.
Rounding out the finals appearances in C Finals were Christine Chan, Farah Stack and Mary Schell. Chan placed second in her 100 butterfly final (18th overall) with a time of 58.38, while Stack's time of 1:56.96 in the 200 freestyle prelims eventually led to a 23rd overall finish and a time of 1:57.52 in the final. Lastly, Mary Schell posted a 1:09.64 in the 100 breaststroke final after stopping the clock in 1:09.10 during the prelims.
The 400 medley relay was the lone relay contested on Friday, as the Lions took 10th overall in 3:56.92.
LMU will wrap up the season on Saturday with the final day of competition from Splash! Regional Aquatics Center.
