50 Freestyle Record Falls on Day Two of MPSF Championships

Junior Kjirsten Magnuson broke Camille Hopp's existing freestyle record of 23.24 on Tuesday night at the MPSF Championships being contested at East LA College. The Coeur d'Alene, Idaho product swam a 23.22 in the preliminaries before improving the mark even further in the Championship Final on Thursday night with a 23.13 to claim third overall.

Sophomore Kristen Clarno also reached the Championship final, placing eighth in the 200 IM with a season-best 2:04.09. Freshman Hannah Calton placed 11th in the same event, turning in a personal-best mark of 2:04.78 to claim the second-best time in LMU program history. The 200 IM record list got one more shake on Tuesday when Kristen Brennand took 19th overall in a personal-best time of 2:06.94 - the fifth-fastest time in LMU history.

Stephanie Horwitz was the final Lion to make a move in the LMU top-10 lists, moving up to fourth all-time in the 500 freestyle after swimming a personal-best 5:01.17 to claim 18th overall.

In addition to the changes in the record books, LMU also saw a number of personal-best swims on Tuesday, including career-bests from Sofia Abrate in the 200 IM, and Lauren Saylor, Kailee Mora, Kathleen Gore and Marlena Nip in the 50 freestyle.

On the team front, LMU is currently just eight points out of sixth place, and just 25 points from the fifth-place team, University of Pacific. Action continues on Friday as day three of the MPSF Championships gets underway.
