The LMU swimming team dropped a dual meet to MPSF-opponent San Diego on Saturday, falling by a score of 160.5-127.5. LMU did manage to record seven victories, including a pair of individual wins from senior Rachel Dekar and junior Kjirsten Magnuson.
Dekar won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, turning in times of 1:06.51 and 2:22.84, respectively.
Magnuson, who had a stellar two-day showing at Alaska last weekend, won the 100 backstroke in 57.99 before claiming victory in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 24.32.
Freshman Hannah Calton guided LMU to a 1-2 finish in the 100 butterfly, winning the event in 56.17 in front of Kailee Mora at 58.09. Calton's time bested her previous personal-best of 57.02, and is now ranked second in LMU history.
Kristen Clarno was the final individual winner for LMU, earning top honors in the 200 individual medley in 2:08.46, just out-touching USD's Sarah Reierson at 2:08.48.
The Lions showed well in the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay, as the team of Magnuson, Dekar, Lise Soule and Katie Rick combined for a time of 1:48.71 to win the race. The Lions also placed a quartet of swimmers in third place of the race.
Other top-three finishes for the Lions included Mary Kate Short's third-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (10:51.91) and 500 freestyle (5:15.73), Stephanie Horwitz (1:54.78) and Clarno's (1:55.19) 2-3 finish in the 200 freestyle, a 2-3 finish from Calton (52.60) and Kristen Brennand (54.58) in the 100 freestyle, Calton's second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:02.89), and Clarno's third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:07.96). Calton's 200 butterfly time proved to be a personal-best and narrowly missed an LMU record set by Trinity O'Neill (2:02.80).
LMU finished the day with a 2-3 finish in the 400 freestyle relay, as Magnuson, Calton, Soule and Clarno teamed for a mark of 3:33.69 to finish second in front of Diana Safa, Tess Brown, Stacy Maier and Lauren Saylor (3:42.16).
LMU will return to action on November 21 for the three-day Arena Invitational at East LA College.
