LONG BEACH, Calif. - Three LMU swimmers reached the meet finals in their respective events on Thursday night at the 2012 Arena Invitational being held in Long Beach, Calif. Sophomore Kjirsten Magnuson reached the Consolation Final in the 50 freestyle, while senior Camille Hopp and freshman Kristen Clarno reached the Bonus Final in the 50 freestyle and 200 IM, respectively. Clarno's time of 2:02.98 easily bested LMU's previous record of 2:05.15 held by Trinity O'Neill, and qualified her for the US National Championships.

Magnuson posted a mark of 23.50 to qualify for the finals before placing seventh in the final with a time of 23.70. That finish was good for 15th overall and handed LMU 12 total points.

Hopp swam a 23.67 in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle to earn her spot in the Bonus Final. There, she finished second in the final with a mark of 23.44.

Clarno, who has been impressive since joining the team this year, placed second in the Bonus Final of the 200 IM after stopping the clock in 2:02.98. The freshman narrowly missed winning the Bonus Final, finishing behind Hawaii's Taylor Ritenberg at 2:02.90. Clarno's final time would have been good enough to finish second in the Consolation Final had she swam in that race.

The Lions also sent a pair of relays into the water on Thursday, as foursomes swam in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay. LMU's team of Magnuson, Hopp, Clarno and Noelani Vargas combined for a time of 1:34.63 in the 200 freestyle relay to claim ninth overall. Sophie Allen, Rachel Dekar, Kristen Brennand and Clarno represented LMU in the 400 medley, teaming for a time of 3:50.02 to finish 10th overall.

Action continues from Long Beach, Calif. today as LMU looks to turn in stellar swims against some of the top competition in the nation.
