Lions Qualify for Twelve Evening Finals on Day One at A3 Invitational

Competing on day one from the A3 Performance Invitational being co-hosted by UC San Diego and San Diego State on Thursday, LMU swimmers qualified for 12 evening finals, led by a trio of swimmers in the B Final of the 50 freestyle.

A total of seven Lions reached the evening finals in the 50 freestyle event, with Alyce-Faye Eichelberger, Taylor Anderson and Marley Abbott each swimming in the B Final. Eichelberger won the B Final with 24.18 to claim 9th overall in the standings. Anderson took second in the B Final with a time of 24.28, while Abbott earned a share of 14th overall with a time of 24.63. The native of Long Beach, Calif. had previously posted a 24.48 in the prelims to qualify for the B Final.

Isabel Willis and Anna Gasiorowski swam in the C Final, with Willis registering a time of 24.65 (20th) and Gasiorowski checking in at 24.79 (23rd). Willis qualified for the C Final by way of a 24.55 in the prelims, while Gasiorowski swam a 24.65 in her preliminary effort. Finally, Caitlin Ryan (24.99) and Farah Stack (25.07) went 28th and 29th overall while swimming in the D Final. Ryan managed a time of 24.79 in the morning preliminaries to qualify for the evening final.

LMU was also well-represented in the 500 freestyle, as Lanna Kozlowski qualified for the B Final by way of a time of 5:06.06 in the preliminary race. She would go on to place 14th overall in a time of 5:06.33. LMU's lone C Final race came from Lauren Akin in the 500, as Akin took home 23rd overall in 5:16.62 after registering a 5:15.74 in the preliminary. Audrey Hixon and Keara Reilly also reached finals in the 500 freestyle, as each earned a spot in the D Final. Hixon stopped the clock in 5:19.76 to take 30th overall after swimming a slightly faster 5:19.72 in the morning preliminary. Reilly also had a better time in the prelims, swimming a 5:18.86 before placing 31st in the final with a mark of 5:20.65.

Abby Chopp rounded out the Lions reaching evening finals, claiming 31st overall in the 200 IM while swimming a 2:11.37 in the D Final of the 200 IM.

On the relay front, LMU's top relay took fifth in the 200 freestyle relay, as Abbott, Eichelberger, Willis and Anderson combined for a time of 1:36.24. In the day's final event, the 400 medley relay, Anderson, Chopp, Olivia Nielsen and Willis teamed to turn in the sixth-fastest time at 3:56.60.

Action continues on Friday from the Aztec Aquaplex on the campus of San Diego State University.

The closest lot to the Aztec Aquaplex is P7, a parking garage located at the corner of 55th and Montezuma. The cost of parking is $2/hour, and parking can be paid for at any of the yellow machines in the parking structure. The Aztec Aquaplex itself is adjacent to Tony Gwynn Stadium, which can be seen from the parking garage.

Each day of the meet will begin with preliminaries at 9 a.m. Finals start at 4:30 p.m. each night. On Saturday, slower heats of the 1650 freestyle are slated to begin at approximately 11:15 a.m., with the fastest women's and men's heat included in the evening portion after 4:30 p.m. At the facility, please listen to PA announcements for confirmed start times and changes. The A3 Performance Invitational is a swimming-only event with no diving.
