Senior Camille Hopp, junior Rachel Dekar, and freshman Kristen Clarno each finished swims at the US Winter National Championships this weekend in Austin, Texas. The trio swam on Thursday and Friday, with Hopp appearing in a pair of events and Dekar and Clarno competing in one. The National Championships welcomed some of the best swimmers in the nation, including a number of Olympians and top collegiate performers.
Hopp first appeared in the 50 freestyle event, placing 50th overall in the preliminary with a time of 23.71. She later returned to the water to swim in the 100 breaststroke, recording a season-best time of 1:03.22 to finish 36th in the preliminary swim. Hopp finished just about a second away from qualifying for the evening final in the 100 breaststroke, as the Top-24 qualified with the slowest time of 1:02.19.
Dekar also swam in the 100 breaststroke, placing 45th overall in a time of 1:04.32. Clarno, who broke the LMU program record in the 200 IM earlier this year, competed in the same event on Thursday morning in Austin, placing 47th overall in 2:04.74.
Hopp, Dekar and Clarno will now join their teammates in preparing for a January 11 competition against Tulane. The Lions will host the Green Wave at 12 p.m.
