Jan. 5, 2009
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU swimming team will travel to La Jolla, Calif. to take on UC San Diego in the first dual meet of 2009 this Saturday, January 10 at 11 a.m. The Lions enter the meet toting a 3-2 dual meet record after dropping their last dual at home against New Mexico State on December 19. LMU dropped the meet to New Mexico State by a score of 152-105. Junior Anne Scott once again performed well in the 50 freestyle, taking first place in 24.28 to edge New Mexico's Kelly Conrad at 24.38. Tammy Choy recorded the Lions' second individual victory of the day after posting the fastest time of 2:10.16 in the 200 individual medley. UC San Diego has had a long hiatus from competition, last swimming competitively at the Nike Cup in late November. There, San Diego improved on its finish from last season, taking fourth overall with 817.5 points, ahead of Nevada, Pacific, Loyola Marymount and fourteen other schools. The Tritons have posted victories over Claremont Mudd-Scripps and Cal State Bakersfield so far this year. Last year, LMU upset UC San Diego, perennially one of the top teams in the PCSC, by a count of 131-128 in the first home dual meet of the season. LMU would go on to take the 2008 PCSC Championship after the impressive victory. After the dual meet against UC San Diego, LMU will return to action on January 17 when it takes on Northern Arizona on the road at 11 a.m.
