LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LIVE VIDEO OF EVENTS

The LMU swimming team will participate in the annual two-day Beach Cup competition this weekend, traveling to Malibu, Calif. to meet Pepperdine, San Diego and Fresno State in Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.

The Lions have already defeated USD in head-to-head action this year, earning a victory at home on November 3. The swim against Pepperdine will be the lone meeting between the two teams this year, and will count toward the annual Wells Fargo PCH Cup standings. LMU currently leads in those standings, 5.5-3.

The Lions are coming off a busy week of competition. One day after hosting and falling to Tulane in a dual meet on Friday, LMU traveled to UC San Diego and dropped a pair of decisions to host UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield. The Lions fell by a count of 181.5-105.5 to UCSD and 151-129 to CSU Bakersfield. The Lions won four races, including a pair of individual races from senior Camille Hopp and the 200 medley relay. On Friday, LMU dropped the decision to Tulane by a count of 147-115. The Lions won five of the 12 individual events on the day to keep things close, but Tulane took both the 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays to bookend the day en route to 22 crucial points. Hopp led the way for the Lions on Friday as well, winning all three of her individual events.

LMU has fared pretty well in prior meetings with USD and Fresno State, as the three schools have competed in annual competition for the last four years. The Lions have twice won the event, earning top honors in 2009 and 2011. The 2010 competition saw the closest finish among the bunch, as LMU was edged by San Diego, 279-275. Fresno State finished third at 270. In its second year competing in the annual cup, Pepperdine will look to build on its fourth-place finish last year.

Action from Pepperdine will begin on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and will conclude with a Saturday session starting at 10 a.m.
