The LMU swimming team will travel to the MPSF Championships being held at East LA College starting on Wednesday and running through Saturday. The Lions are seeded well throughout the Championships, with a number of swimmers seeded in the top-eight.
Junior Kjirsten Magnusons is seeded in the top-eight in all three of her events (50 and 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), while senior Rachel Dekar will look to improve upon her LMU-record pace in the 100 breaststroke and set a new LMU mark in the 200 after earning top-eight seeds in both events. Freshman Hannah Calton is seeded in the top-eight in both butterfly events and 12th in the 200 IM, while Kristen Clarno is also in great position entering the Championships, seeded in the top-12 in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 backstroke. Senior Angelina Prat enters eighth in the 200 butterfly, while also earning a top-16 seed in the 500 freestyle. Mary Kate Short, Stephanie Horwitz, Stacy Maier and Mary Kate Reid all are within scoring position, seeded in the top-16 of their respective events.
LMU head coach Bonnie Adair is optimistic about the upcoming Championships. "If all goes perfect, we could have as many as 13 school records broken out of a possible 18 events," Adair said. "It will be tough to record that many school records, but our swimmers are all in the ballpark, which should make for a very exciting meet."
Highlighting those swimmers looking to improve upon or set new LMU marks are seniors Dekar (100 and 200 breaststroke), Prat (500 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay) and Short (1,650 freestyle). The trio are three of seven Lion seniors who will be competing for the final time in a Lion suit.
