The LMU swimming team will make the short trip to East Los Angeles College this week to take part in the 2013 MPSF Championships. The four-day competition begins on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the women's 200 medley relay. The LMU swimming last competed more than two weeks ago, dropping a pair of decisions to UC Santa Barbara and Pacific on February 2. Freshman Kristen Clarno highlighted LMU's individual events, winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.62. The native of Sunnyvale, Calif. also finished third in the 100 backstroke (58.67) and helped LMU to a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. In addition to the second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, LMU also managed to take second in the 200 medley relay. Kjirsten Magnuson, Rachel Dekar, Stephanie Hess and Camille Hopp teamed for a time of 1:48.62 in that race. Dekar and Magnuson managed the only other top-two finishes for the Lions, with Dekar placing second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.75 and Magnuson taking second in the 50 freestyle at 24.50. Senior Noelani Vargas had a very competitive swim in the 200 backstroke, narrowly missing second place with a time of 2:10.95 to finish third.
LMU looks to be in a pretty favorable position, seeding four swimmers in the Top-8 in seven different events, and entering the competition with the third-best 200 freestyle relay. In addition, the Lions boast a handful of swimmers in scoring position within the Top-16. LMU seeded in the Top-16 |
