Oct. 22, 2008
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After finishing second at both the PCSC Relays and PCSC Pentathlon on October 10 and 11, the Loyola Marymount swimming team will look to continue its success this Saturday as it travels to Malibu, Calif. to swim in the Malibu Invitational at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The one-day event will be split into two meets, with the sprint meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. The distance meet will begin around 2 p.m. Although LMU does not field a diving team, diving events will be held at noon. Azusa Pacific, Biola, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Cal Lutheran, Cal State Northridge, Concordia Irvine, LMU, Pepperdine (women only), SOKA and University of La Verne will all compete in the invitational. Last Saturday, the LMU swim team finished second only to Pepperdine at the PCSC Pentathlon, finishing with 546.5 points. The Lions lost ground to the Waves in the diving events, but did an outstanding job in the overall pentathlon and individual swimming events. Junior Anne Scott placed second overall in the sprint IM pentathlon, while freshman Yvonne Le (second), junior Kristen Lutjen (ninth) and sophomore Trinity O'Neill (10th) all finished in the top-10 in the distance IM pentathlon. LMU dominated the freestyle-based pentathlon, as senior Rebecca Plume and junior Alicia Witter finished first and second overall. Plume won the event in 15:03.45, followed by Witter at 15:07.93. Senior Megan Sawelson (sixth), freshman Kyla Dahlquist (seventh) and sophomore Carolyn Pasque (eighth) followed to run the tally to five LMU swimmers in the top-10 of the pentathlon.
Showing its strength in the freestyle events, LMU set new PCSC Pentathlon records in two individual events on Saturday. Pasque motored to a first-place finish in the 25 freestyle with a time of 11.24, while Witter took home first with a time of 54.18 in the 100 freestyle. After taking part in the Malibu Invitational this weekend, LMU will return to the water on November 1 as they take on Cal State Bakersfield, Pacific and Fresno Pacific in Bakersfield, Calif. |
