Nov. 12, 2012
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - On Sunday morning, the 27 swimmers from LMU's women's swimming team joined assistant coach Joanne Reierson and her family in a 5K walk at Dodger Stadium in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The Reierson's son, Nils, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three years ago, and their family has been a big supporter of the JDRF creating "Team Nils" so that family and friends could join in the fight to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes.
The thousands of walkers at the event circled the outside of Dodger Stadium twice before entering the field area to circle the infield. As "Team Nils" entered the stadium, the event announcer gave a `shout out' to the LMU swim team who helped raise $12,000 for the cause.
