After taking a week off from competition, the LMU women's swimming team will once again hit competitive waters this week when it travels to East LA College in Monterey Park, Calif. for the annual Arena Invitational from Thursday through Saturday. The NCAA Championships format meet consists of preliminaries starting at 9 a.m. daily with finals starting at 5 p.m. The meet is scored to 24 places with a bonus final in each event.

As is always the case with the Arena Invitational, the competition should be strong this week. Head Coach Bonnie Adair expects a very competitive meet among 'mid-Major' D1 programs, in addition to top-ranked UCSD at the Division II level. Five of the eight MPSF teams are participating (LMU, Pacific, USD, Cal Poly and Hawaii) and four WCC teams (LMU, USD, Pacific and Pepperdine) will be in attendance.

The Lions enter competition seeded very well, highlighted by top-seed Rachel Dekar in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and Kristen Clarno taking top-seed in the 200 individual medley. With such fast races and strong competition, LMU has consistently set personal records and a number of program records at the Arena Invitational in prior years.

Thursday's program includes the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 400 medley relay. The 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 freestyle relay are set to take place on Friday. The 2013 Arena Invitational will conclude Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.

Live results of the three-day Arena Invitational are available by downloading the Meet Mobile phone app on either Apple or Android devices or by visiting

After competing at the Arena Invitational, LMU will head to Knoxville, Tenn. for the U.S. Winter National Championships from December 5-7.
