LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team took to the courts on Saturday at the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational after a short rain delay in Long Beach, Calif. Day two of the tournament saw the Lions play Long Beach State in singles competition, while matching-up with Nevada in doubles.

Long Beach State, the 38th team in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, featured a pair of ranked singles players. No. 117 Laura Bernard bested LMU's Tory Parravi in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. For Parravi, the loss is the first of the spring season after defeating her opponent in yesterday's first day of competition. LMU's Ashley Anderson drew No. 122 Rachel Manasse, as Anderson fell, 6-0, 6-3.

In other singles action, Miya Jin dropped a decision to Anais Dallara, 6-3, 7-5, while Julie Luzar took down Elisaveta Pironkova by scores of 6-4, 7-5. Freshmen Ana Lucia Fuentes and Madison Wesseln were also defeated on Saturday, each falling in straight sets to opponents from Long Beach State.

Nevada's doubles pairs were equally as impressive on Saturday, as the team of Legendre/Verberne bested Jin/Anderson by a count of 8-2. Pironkova/Parravi fell by the same count, with the loss coming at the hands of Okhremchuk/Maslova. In the final doubles match of the day, Fuentes/Wesseln were blanked by the tough duo of Stevens/Eufrasio, 8-0.

Action from Long Beach, Calif. concludes tomorrow as the Lions will play singles matches against Nevada before meeting Cal State Northridge in doubles.
