Los Angeles, Calif. -- The LMU women’s tennis team played at No. 5 UCLA in Westwood on Wednesday, where the Lions fell 7-0. Arguably the toughest opponent the Lions will face all season, the Bruins feature three nationally ranked singles players, including the No. 1 player overall. The Lions drop to 1-1 on the early season while the Bruins improve to 4-0.

In doubles play, the Lions fought to get a few points on all three courts, falling 6-1 on Courts 1 and 3 and 5-2 on Court 2. In singles play, LMU competed hard on all six courts. Standing out for the Lions was freshman Jessica Perez who battled No. 9 Chanelle van Nguyen to a close 7-5, 6-1 setback on Court 2. On Court 6, sophomore Ellie Grossman almost came back to win the second set but would fall 6-3, 7-5.

The Lions will return home to the LMU Tennis Center this weekend for two matches. On Saturday, the team faces UC Santa Barbara and on Sunday, the Lions will square off with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Both matches will be held at 11:00 a.m.
