LOS ANGELES -- The Lions are off to a 2-0 start in the 2013 season with an impressive 4-3 victory over 39th-ranked Long Beach State. LMU came back in doubles to secure the point before holding on to a split in the singles round over the 49ers (2-1). The match got off to a good start for the Lions in doubles. In #1 doubles, juniors Miya Jin and Claudia Razzeto lost to Malenovska and Cantlay 8-4. LMU then began to rally on courts two and three. Senior April Bisharat and sophomore Tory Parravi got an 8-6 victory over Unden and Rozenberg in #2 doubles. The point came down to court three where junior Reka Rohonyi and freshman Kristine Kouyoumjian rallied back to beat Jeczmionka and Willems, 8-6, giving the Lions the doubles point. In singles, the match tied after the first result on court four. Rohonyi fell to Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-1. LMU regained the lead at #1 singles as Bisharat won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 over Malenovska. Jin brought the Lions to the cusp of victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win in #5 singles. As a battle ragged on court two, Razzeto fell to Cantlay, 6-4, 6-1 in #3 singles to trim LMU's advantage to 3-2. The match came down to court two, where Parravi battled to hold onto the Lions lead and persevered in an intense 6-1, 7-5 win over Unden giving LMU the match. In the final contest, Kouyoumjian battled but fell to Rozenberg, 6-3, 7-5.
