Lions Drop Thriller to UCSB
LMU fought hard against UCSB, but dropped the match 4-3

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The LMU women's tennis team hosted UCSB on Saturday, falling to the Gauchos 4-3. The two teams fought hard on all courts with the last court to finish being the deciding factor in the match. The Lions drop to 1-2 on the season while the win was the Gauchos' first of the season leading them to a 1-2 record.
In doubles play, the Lions fought hard and the winner was decided on a tie-breaker on Court 2. Miya Jin and Jessica Perez easily defeated UCSB's duo of Melissa Baker and Kaiulani Boyer on court 1, 6-3, but Stacy Yam and Luisa Ortiz Candido dispatched Reka Rohonyi and Lisa Piller on court three to even the tally. With the doubles point hanging in the balance, sophomore Kristine Kouyoumjian and freshman Lauri Mueller fought hard but would fall 7-6, giving UCSB the point.
Standing out once again for LMU in singles competition was freshman Jessica Perez, who cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over her opponent. Kouyoumjian also won 6-1, 6-2 on court 3. Rohonyi and Jin both battled back after dropping the first set of their matches, but only Rohonyi was able to complete the comeback, winning 12-10 in the 10-point tiebreaker.
The Lions return to action on Sunday to face Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at the LMU Tennis Center . The match will be held at 11:00 a.m.
