Lions Win Fourth Straight

Freshman Julia Norlin got a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles Friday.

Riverside, Calif. -- The LMU women's tennis team kept the success going on the road Friday with a 6-1 win over UC Riverside, making it four straight victories for the Lions.

Things got off to a nice start in the doubles round for the Lions. After struggling in doubles play to open the season, LMU has now won the doubles point in back-to-back matches. On Court 1, Jessica Perez and Miya Jin won 8-2. The freshman/senior duo improved to 6-2 in doubles play with their performance Friday. On Court 2, Ellie Grossman and Lauri Mueller got a big 8-0 win over their opponents, making it the first win for that pairing. And on Court 3, Kristine Kouyoumjian and Reka Rohonyi won 8-2, helping the Lions sweep the doubles point.

In singles, the Lions were solid all the way through the lineup. On Court 2, Perez was ahead in the first set when her opponent retired from the match due to injury, giving the LMU freshman the automatic win. On Court 3, the Lions saw another one of their freshman get a singles when Mueller defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0. Rohonyi was the Lion on Court 4, who won her match 6-1, 6-2. The sophomore transfer Grossman gave the Lions a win on Court 5 with her 6-4, 6-2 performance. And on Court 6, it was the freshman Julia Norlin who got the double bagel 6-0, 6-0 win for LMU. The five wins in singles play helped the Lions coast to a 6-1 win over UC Riverside. This extends LMU's win streak to four games after winning the previous three in tight 4-3 matches.



LMU will continue their road trip on Sunday when the face San Diego St. at 12:00p.m.
