Lions Fall To No. 58 SDSU
The LMU women's tennis team couldn't hang on to pull off the upset of No. 58 San Diego St. Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.

San Diego, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team couldn't hang on to pull off the upset of No. 58 San Diego St. Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. After winning their previous four matches, the Lions could not overcome the Aztecs in the 4-3 decision. LMU falls to 5-5 with the setback while SDSU improves to 5-6.
The doubles round went in favor of the Lions Sunday afternoon with LMU winning on two out of three courts and earning the doubles point. On Court 2, Ellie Grossman and Laura Mueller defeated their opponents 8-5 to give the Lions the first win. Then on the top court, it was Jessica Perez and Miya Jin who clinched the doubles point for the Lions with their 8-5 victory.
In singles play, the Lions fell on Court 1 first, where SDSU had the No. 36 singles player in the country showing off her prowess. This tied the match at 1-1. Then on Court 6, Grossman returned the lead to the Lions with her 6-3, 7-6 win. SDSU then took over, winning on the next three courts to secure the team victory. On Court 5, however, Reka Rohonyi was able to give the Lions another point with her 6-4, 6-3 win.
The Lions will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for their next two matches. The first will be Friday, February 28 for a 10:00a.m. match with UNLV.
