No. 64 Lions Fall to No. 54 Lady Rebels

LAS VEGAS, NV - The 54th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point to defeat No. 64 Loyola Marymount at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Saturday in the first meeting between the schools since 1991.
The Lady Rebels improved to 5-1 this spring and 4-3 all-time vs. the Lions, who fell to 3-6 with the defeat. All six of the Lions losses have come from nationally ranked opponents as well.
LMU began the day by winning two of the doubles matches, at No. 1 and No. 3, for one team point. UNLV's only winners were Marianne Bakken and Gyorgyi Zsiros on the second court.
In singles play, UNLV lost only two sets but both were at the third court where LMU's Edit Pakay downed Agneiszka Abram 6-2, 6-0.
Lady Rebel Paulina Janus won at the top spot, 7-6, 6-3, over Andrea Lord. Also sweeping for UNLV were Zsiros at No. 2, Tracie Chong at No. 4, Leentjie Oosthuizen at No. 5 and Bakken in the sixth position.
The Lions will host Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, and on Thursday they will host UC Irvine.
