Lions Fall to Santa Clara

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After winning three matches in a row, the Lions fell to conference opponent Santa Clara today. The Santa Clara Broncos took the match 5-2 overall today on the Degheri Courts leaving the Lions 0-1 in conference play. Even with this loss, LMU's Miya Jin continued her winning streak with another singles victory and Reka Rohonyi earned back-to-back wins on the weekend. The Lions are now 3-6 on the season.
The Lions were unable to hold off the Broncos in doubles play today dropping courts one and two to give Santa Clara the early lead. Senior Shuana Morgan and Melissa Valenzuela earned a doubles win, defeating Zaniewski/Cox 8-4 on court three.
In singles play, the Lions were highlighted by wins from freshman Miya Jin and Reka Rohonyi. On court five, Miya Jin earned her fourth straight singles win over Maggie McGeorge on court five. Jin defeated McGeorge in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 making her 7-2 in singles play on the season as just a freshman. Reka Rohonyi also recorded a win for the Lions over Jessica Agra of SCU 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-6. After dropping the second set, Rohonyi came back to win her match in a ten point tie-breaker.
The Lions were close on all courts in singles play, going to there sets on four out of the six courts. However they were uable to get the overall win falling in their first conference match up. Next up the Lions will travel to Hawaii to face University of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific.
