Women's Tennis Falls to Long Beach State, 5-2
Lions get two points in singles over top-ranked 49ers.

LONG BEACH, CA--The Long Beach State women's tennis team, ranked #54 in the latest national rankings, defeated Loyola Marymount 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. The 49ers improve to 14-1 with the victory, their 12th in a row, while LMU fell to 6-8 overall.
In doubles, the 49ers won all three matches, to earn the doubles point. Sisters Anastasia and Alena Dvornikova, ranked #54 in the nation, defeated Andrea Lord/Angelina Zdorovytska, 8-4. At the #2 spot, Lindsey Marvel and Laura Thomas won 9-8 over Edit Pakay and Julie Hladik, while at the #3 spot, Cheryl Kindred and Kelly Chan won 9-8 over Jessica Placencia and Penka Fileva.
In singles, the 49ers won three matches in straight sets and won a fourth in three sets. Anastasia Dvornikova defeated Lord, 6-1, 6-1 at the #1 spot, while Kindred and Claudia Argumedo won at the #5 and #6 spots respectively 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4. At #4 singles, Thomas battled back from a one-set deficit to defeat Zdorovytska 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. Lindsey Marvel (#2) and Alena Dvornikova (#3) lost their matches in straight sets.
The Lions return to LMU on Friday when they host the Princeton Tigers at 1:00 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Courts. On Sunday they host San Diego for a West Coast Conference match at 12:00 noon.
