Lions Defeat Toreros in WCC Match-Up

Los Angeles, CA - Giving up only one point on the match, the Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team defeated the San Diego Toreros 6-1 on the LMU Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon to open up West Coast Conference play.

In doubles, the Lions swept the Toreros for the team point. LMU's Lord/Zdorovytska duo defeated Arrangoiz/Liucsay, 8-2 at No. 1. Pakay/Hladik took care of Heppell/Rapp at No. 2, as LMU took the 8-4 win. Rounding out the doubles, LMU's Fileva/Placencia combo defeat Seppi/Kazarian at No. 3 8-3.

In singles, the Lions took all-but one match. At No. 1, Edit Pakay defeated Tara Liucsay in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Andrea Lord played at No. 2 for the Lions, defeating Catherine Heppell in straight sets as well, 6-0, 6-3. Penka Fileva was the only Lion to fall to the conference competition as Paola Arrangoiz took the three-set win for the Toreros (7-5, 5-7, (10-4). The Lions took the rest of the matches from USD with Angelina Zdorovytska defeating Lauren Kazarian in two (6-2, 6-1). Julie Hladik played at No. 5 for LMU picking up the straight-set win over USD's Annie Rapp (6-2, 6-1). Georgie Dinham rounded out the lineup for the Lions defeating Annie Seppi of USD 8-0.

The Lions will host two games this coming week with their first on Monday, when they host the Saint Mary's Gaels at 1:30 p.m. On Wed., March 27 they host the Santa Clara Broncos at 1:30 p.m.
