Tennis Battles to Get Win
In a close match, the Lions were able to hold off New Mexico State for a 4-3 win.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The women's tennis team came out with a big 4-3 win over New Mexico State earlier today to earn their third win of the season. The Lions were highlighted with wins from Elisaveta Pironkova, Melissa Valenzuela and Bliss Nixon in singles. LMU clinched the doubles point and fought back in singles, which ultimately gave them the one point lead over the Aggies.
In doubles play the Lions earned wins on court one and two to clinch the critical doubles point for the day. On court one, Elisaveta Pironkova and Jane Pringle shut out Isabela Kulaf and Aleksa Costa of New Mexico 8-0. Meanwhile on court two Melissa Valenzuela came back in competitive play for the Lions and teamed up with Bliss Nixon for an 8-4 win over Sophia Marks/Manon Sylvain of New Mexico State. In other doubles play, Shauna Morgan and Audrey Bulkley were unable to hold off Ginet Pinero/Natalia Salum of New Mexico 8-4.
In singles play, the Lions saw wins from Elisaveta Pironkova, Melissa Valenzuela and Bliss Nixon to secure the overall 4-3 win. LMU played with out top Lion Jasmin Heckel today whild Melissa Valenzuela came back into competition for the Lions. Melissa Valenzuela defeated Costa of New Mexico State 6-2, 7-5, 3-6. After winning the first set, Valenzuela came back in the third to win the match. After dropping the first set, Elisaveta Pironkova fought back to win the next two sets to earn another point for the Lions 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Pinero of New Mexico. Bliss Nixon gave the Lions their final point on the day with a win over Salum on court five 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Nixon also fought back after dropping the first set as well to give the Lions another point. In other singles play Jane Pringle was defeated by New Mexico's Sylvain 6-3, 6-2, Estelle LaPorte fell to Kulaif 6-1, 6-0 and Audrey Bulkley fell to Tapin of New Mexico State 1-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Next up, the Lions will face top ranked UCSB on Saturday March 27th at 1:30 pm at the LMU Tennis Center.
