Lions Take 2 out of 3 in Moraga
March 31, 2009 Moraga, Calif - Loyola Marymount Women's Tennis (7-9) bounced back with two consecutive victories on Saturday and Sunday. After defeating Gonzaga on Saturday, LMU took Portland 6-1 in their final match in Moraga, Calif. LMU won their second consecutive doubles point. They were led by the pairs of Elisaveta Pironkova and Jasmin Heckel and Tina Razloznik and Shauna Morgan. Pironkova and Heckel defeated Portland's Stephanie Fuchs and Tessa Mini 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles position while Razloznik and Morgan topped Anna Gullickson and Stefanie Doolittle 8-4 in the No. 3 spot. The Lions continued to dominate into the singles round. LMU won five of the six matches, four of them in straight sets. Jasmin Heckel started it all in the No. 2 position. Heckel defeated Megan Sporndi 6-3, 6-3, for her second win in a row and seventh on the year. Elisaveta Pironkova also led the charge. The freshman from Bulgaria player defeated the Pilots' Fuchs 6-1, 6-3 for her team best 12-4 spring singles record. Jane Pringle also showed her dominance in singles. In the No. 4 singles position, Pringle took LMU's only extra set victory. Pringle topped Portland's Doolittle 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 for her seventh victory this season and her third in the No. 4 spot. Shauna Morgan and Bliss Nixon wrapped up the victory for the Lions. In the No. 5 spot, Morgan easily took down Gulliickson 6-1, 6-2 for fifth victory this season. Nixon continued to spark in the No. 6 spot. She continued her streak in that position winning her third singles victory in a row. Nixon topped Mini 6-4, 6-0 for the match and the win.
Loyola Marymount Women's Tennis (7-9) will be back on the road this weekend. The Lions will travel to Cal State Northridge on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and UC Irvine on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. |
