LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team (8-12, 2-5 WCC) defeated Pacific (8-12, 1-6 WCC) by a score of 5-2 at the LMU Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lions dropped the doubles point, but rebounded nicely to earn victories on five of the six singles courts.
After dropping the first doubles contest on the second court, LMU's duo of Reka Rohonyi and Kristine Kouyoumjian defeated Suarez-Boncheva, 8-2, on court three to even the tally at 1-1. Despite a hard-fought match, LMU's #1 doubles team of Miya Jin and Jessica Perez fell in the clincher, 8-5, as Pacific took the doubles point.
Just as they did in doubles play, the two squads split the first two decisions as LMU's Lauri Mueller defeated Francis Dean, 6-3, 6-1, on court four before Pacific got the victory on court one behind Hana Ritterova.
Trailing 2-1 in the match score, LMU took control of the match and rattled-off four straight singles victories on the remaining courts. Jessica Perez took down Cristina Saenz de Bu, 6-3, 6-4 on court two before freshman Ellie Grossman knocked off Regina Suarez, 6-3, 7-6 on court six. Miya Jin followed with the decisive victory on court three, dispatching Gergana Boncheva, 6-2, 7-5. With the match already in the books, Reka Rohonyi earned a victory by default over Christina Ferrari on the fifth and final court.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow at Noon when they host Saint Mary's.
