LOS ANGELES -- The Lions brought their biggest crowd of the year out for senior day on Wednesday, but the team would fall 5-2 to No. 71 Pepperdine. LMU drops to 10-10 on the year and 2-5 in conference play while Pepperdine moves up 9-11 and 6-1 in the WCC.
The highlight of the match for the Lions came on Court 1. Playing in her final home match, senior April Bisharat was going to win no matter what it would take. Pepperdine’s Lorraine Guillermo is currently ranked No. 32 in the nation for singles play. But like she’s done before this season, Bisharat would defeat her ranked opponent 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles round, all three matches were extremely close. The Lions went back in forth with Pepperdine the entire match on Court 1 but the Waves would prevail for the 8-6 victory. Pepperdine also won 8-6 on Court 2 to clinch the doubles point. LMU’s Tory Parravi and Kristine Kouyoumjian won the lone doubles match for the Lions with an 8-6 victory, but the result was inconsequential to the final score.
In singles, Pepperdine would keep its momentum for the doubles round going, clinching the match early. Winning on Courts 2, 3, 5, and 6, Pepperdine would get the points it needed for the team victory. Other than Bisharat, the only other Lion to win was Kouyoumjian on Court 4, who won 6-3, 6-4.
Bisharat and Adriana Radinovic were honored in pre-match festivities for senior day as the two played in their final home match Wednesday.
The Lions will end their regular season on the road at BYU this Saturday before competing in the WCC Championships in San Diego next week.
