Women's Tennis Advances to Championship Game
Lions defeat Santa Clara 6-1 in WCC Tournament and will face Pepperdine in final.

Santa Clara, CA (April 20, 2002) - For the second consecutive season the Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team will advance to the championship match of the West Coast Conference tournament and face rival Pepperdine. The Lions, the number two seed, earned the repeat trip to the finals with a 6-1 win over third seed Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon.
With a sweep in the doubles competition and a solid performance in the singles competition, the Lions claimed a repeat trip to the championship match against top seed Pepperdine. The Waves, who defeated the Lions in the 2001 championship match in San Diego, defeated the fifth seeded Portland Pilots, 7-0, to advance.
Andrea Lord continues her solid play earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over Janalle Kaloi in number two singles to clinch the Lions win over Santa Clara. Lord also teamed with Angelina Zdorovytska in number one doubles for an 8-4 win.
Also earning an 8-4 doubles win was the number three team of Penka Fileva and Jessica Placencia. Julie Hladik and Edit Pakay earned an 8-3 win at number two doubles for the Lions' second straight doubles sweep in the tournament.
Hladik's match at number five singles was the best of the day, as she defeated Pati Ruiz 4-6, 6-3, and then 15-13 in the tie-breaker in the third set. The other three-set match was Santa Clara's Christine Limbers 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Pakay in number one singles.
In each of the single's competition, Fileva, Zdorovytska and Georgina Dinham earned victories.
The Lions will battle Pepperdine for the championship at Santa Clara at 1:30 on Sunday.
