Women Drop a Close One
Women's tennis closes out their conference play with a close match against Gonzaga

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU women's tennis team closed out the weekend at the WCC Championship tournament in San Diego with a close loss to no. 6 Gonzaga 4-3. After dropping the doubles point, the women saw wins from Jane Pringle, Estelle LaPorte and Elisaveta Pironkova to close out the WCC tournament.
The Lions dropped the doubles point to Gonzaga after falling on courts two and three. With hopes of coming back in singles play the Lions rallied back to earn two singles wins from Jane Pringle, Estelle LaPorte and Elisaveta Pironkova. To close out her senior season, Pringle defeated Kristina Zauere at the number two position 6-2, 6-3 to earn the Lion's first point on the day. Pringle played strong across the board in doubles and singles at the Lion's top positions all season and ended her collegiate career with a big win over Gonzaga. The Lions second win came from Elisaveta Pironkova on court five. Pironkova came on strong at the end of this season with some big wins for the Lions and ended her season with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gonzaga's Sophie Lantta. Finally Estelle LaPorte finished out her season with a win coming back after dropping the first set to defeat Clare Dodge of Gonzaga 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. LaPorte had a strong season in singles play and moved up in the Lion's line up to consistently play in the Lions top four positions.While the lady Lions did not find the success they were hoping to this season, they faced a difficult schedule with a lot of tough competition that they challenged to close matches. The women finished eighth in conference while Saint Mary's won their first ever WCC Championship.
