Parravi Starts Fall Campaign With Tournament Win
The sophomore wins the top-flight singles tournament at the Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate.

FULLERTON, Calif. -- LMU sophomore Tory Parravi took home the top prize at the Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate tournament this past weekend, winning the top-flight singles competition. Junior Reka Rohonyi won the “C” flight consolation singles bracket as well, giving the Lions a successful weekend in Fullerton.
Parravi defeated four competitors en route to her tournament victory. After receiving a bye in the first round, she made a comeback defeating Ania Jaczmionka of Long Beach State, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) in a close match that saw Parravi down a set. The San Diego native followed that close match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of UC Santa Barbara’s Priscilla Garcia. In the semifinal, Parravi defeated Cal State Los Angeles’s Leora Hemmerich, 6-1, 6-7 (9), 6-3. Parravi took the title with a 6-2, 6-3, win over Klaudia Malenovska from Long Beach State.
The “A” flight singles almost had an all-LMU final. Senior April Bisharat withdrew in the tournament’s semifinal with Klaudia Malenovska due to an injury. Prior to the injury Bisharat steamrolled through the tournament field without dropping a set. She won her first round match with Long Beach State’s Sarah Cantlay, 6-2, 6-2. Bisharat defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Kiersten Meehan, 6-2, 6-1, in the second round. In her quarterfinal matchup, she beat UC Irvine’s Kat Facey, 7-5, 6-3.
In “C” flight consolation singles, junior Reka Rohonyi defeated Cal State Los Angeles’s Sydney Postal, 6-1, 6-2 in the final to win the bracket. Rohonyi breezed through the bracket, defeating Cal State Los Angeles’s Wichenko in the quartefinals, 6-1, 6-3 and Sismund, 6-2, 6-1 in the seminfinals.
Bisharat and Rohonyi were forced to withdraw from the “A” flight doubles competition due to Bisharat’s injury.
The team of Tory Parravi and Claudia Razzeto advanced to the “B” flight doubles tournament semifinals, before falling to UC Santa Barbara’s team of Yam and Cano, 9-8 (7-5). Parravi and Razzeto defeated Portland State’s Todd and McDonald, 8-1 in the first round, 8-1, and Cal State Los Angeles’s Wichenko and Leung, 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
Razzeto fell in the semifinals of the “B” flight singles, 6-3, 6-2, to Sarah Gong of UC Irvine.
In “C” singles, Rohonyi lost to UC Irvine’s Nakisa Vahdat, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the second round.
The Lions are back in action this weekend at the University of Memphis’s Fall Tournament. The proceedings get underway this Friday, Oct. 12.
