Women's Tennis Gets Wins at ITA Regionals
The Lions advanced in the various tournaments of the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego.

POINT LOMA, Calif. -- This past weekend, LMU women's tennis got wins and valuable experience facing some of the Southwest's best players at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Tournaments hosted by San Diego State University at the Barnes Tennis Center, home of the 2013 WCC Championships.
Over the weekend, seven members of the LMU women's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional tournament in San Diego, Calif.
In singles play, both April Bisharat and Reka Rohonyi made it to the round of 32. After receiving a first-round bye, Bisharat defeated Marta Stojanovic of San Diego 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 64. Then she faced eighth-overall Alejandra Granillo of Pepperdine and lost 6-2, 6-3.
Rohonyl was matched up against UCLA's Megan Lester in the first round. After dropping the first set 0-6, Rohonyl turned things around and won the match 0-6, 6-2, 6-0. Then, in another long three-set match, Rohonyl took down Ania Jeczmionka of Long Beach St. 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the round of 32, Rohonyl met up with the second overall seed Sabrina Santamaria from USC who had yet to drop a single game. Rohonyl was then eliminated by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
Freshman Kristine Kouyoumjian lost her opening round match to Megan Moore of Pepperdine 6-2, 6-1 but cruised through the consolation bracket. Kouyoumjian received a first and second round bye in the consolation pool before beating Sabrina Man-Son-Hing of Cal State Northridge 6-2, 6-3. She then advanced another round due to an opponent's injury before defeating Joanna Smith of Arizona State 6-4, 7-5 in the consolation quarterfinal. Then, up one set in the semifinal match, the rain began to come down which caused a cancellation of the final two rounds of the consolation bracket.
Tory Parravi defeated her first round opponent Karolina Rozenberg of Long Beach St. 7-6, 6-2 before falling 6-3, 6-4 in her next match against the twelfth-seeded Julia Wais of San Diego St. Claudia Razzeto defeated Leighann Sahagun of Arizona St. 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 before losing to San Diego's ninth overall seed Anna Depenau 7-5, 6-4.
Miya Jin lost in the opening round in a close 7-6, 6-4 match against UC Santa Barbara's Klersten Meehan 7-6, 6-4.
In doubles play, Bisharat and Jin defeated Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith of UC Irvine 8-5 in the first round and then beat Tiffany Mai and Monica Rodriguez of Cal State Fullerton 8-5. The LMU duo finally lost in the round of 16 to Rozenberg and Ebba Unden of Long Beach St. 8-5.
Parravi and Rohonyl had a first round bye in doubles competition but were squared off against the third overall seed in the next round, where they lost 8-0 to Gabi Desimone and Zoe Scandalls of USC.
The team of Razzeto and Adrianna Radinovic lost their opening match 8-5 to Anna Depenau and Alexandra Victorsson of San Diego.
After three consecutive weekends on the road, LMU women's tennis will take next weekend off from tournament play. Next up for the Lions is the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State University, beginning Friday, Nov. 2.
