Competing at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, Calif., LMU's Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek have each advanced past the first round. Miroshnichenko opened singles play with a victory, while the pair also posted a win in doubles.
Miroshnichenko began play with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Virginia Tech's Natalie Novotna. With the win, the freshman now advances to play Arianne Hartono of Cal on Thursday morning.
Voracek drew seventh-seed Sinead Lohan of Miami in the first round, dropping the decision, 6-2, 6-3. She will now enter the consolation bracket against Eudice Chong on Thursday.
In the doubles bracket, Miroshnichenko and Voracek faced off against the eight seed in the tournament, Syracuse's Gabriela Knutson/Miranda Ramirez. There, the Lions posted a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(5) victory to move on to a second-round match against Christofi/Coppoc (Georgia).
