The LMU women’s tennis team made their biggest trip of the year last weekend, when they sent eight players to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the Alberta Allison Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama. LMU had four players reach the finals of their respective draws, making the trip a big success.

LMU was the only team from the West represented at the tournament as they competed against teams from the ACC, SEC, and other schools back East. In the main draw for doubles, senior Miya Jin and sophomore Ellie Grossman won two matches to reach the finals. They defeated a team from Samford and another pair from Tennessee before dropping an 8-4 decision to a duo from Georgia St. in the finals.

In the back draw for doubles, senior Reka Rohonyi and junior Lisa Piller found some success. After an opening round loss to a pair from Ole Miss in a close tiebreaker, they went on to win the back draw by defeating a team from Samford and a pair from UNC-Greensborough.

In her singles main draw, Piller won two matches to reach her final. Piller took down opponents from Tennessee and Tulane before falling in the final to a player from Georgia St.

Also in singles play was sophomore Kristine Kouyoumjian, who won the back draw for her division. After falling in the first round, Kouyoumjian won her next two matches over a player from Middle Tennessee St. and a player from LSU to win the finals.

Freshman Jessica Perez and Grossman finished third place in their respective singles draws, each winning two matches and dropping one. Freshman Julia Norlin also earned a key victory over an opponent from Clemson Univeristy.

The Lions wrap up their fall schedule at the annual Jack Kramer Invitational in Rolling Hills, California next weekend.
