Lions past and present take to the court Saturday for the annual alumni match.

Jan. 13, 2006

Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount tennis will kick-off its 2006 spring season this Saturday with a day of alumni fanfare. Both the men and women's programs will welcome back LMU tennis alumni for the annual friendly competition.

Head Coaches Jamie Sanchez (women) and Nik DeVore (men) planned the day as a start to the spring schedule, as both squads begin competition this month.

"I am especially looking forward to this year's alumnae match because it begins the celebration of the 30th year of women's tennis at LMU," Sanchez said. "It will be a great opportunity for three decades of players to reconnect with each other and the current team. Sometimes through the discussion that occurs on the courts, long-term mentoring relationships are formed."

The women's tennis program will begin the event with its alumnae matches at 10:30 a.m. at the LMU Tennis Center. Lunch will follow, with both teams enjoying the camaraderie at noon. The men will then take to the courts for their alumni matches at 1:30 p.m.

"This event is a great way for our alumni to stay in touch with our program and see how we have been progressing," DeVore said. "It's also an opportunity for our new players to get to know some of the people who helped make the program what it is today. This always proves to be a fun event, one that our players look forward to every year."
