Women’s Tennis Receives First-Place Vote, Selected Third in Preseason Poll

WCC Preseason Poll Release

The West Coast Conference announced, on Wednesday, that the preseason poll has selected the LMU women’s tennis team to finish third in the conference.

Pepperdine was selected unanimously by the 10 WCC head coaches to win the conference in the 2018 season, earning 81 points, with the maximum of nine first-place votes as conference policy prohibits coaches from casting a vote for their own team. All 10 coaches placed a vote on which team they believe will win the conference, with Loyola Marymount as the only other team able to garner a vote. The Lions finished just one point behind Gonzaga for the second spot in the standing.

Head Coach Agustin Moreno saw his Lions chosen to finish 10th in the conference during his inaugural poll in 2016. During Moreno’s second season, the team rose to sixth in the poll, and after a fifth-place finish in the regular season last year, continues to climb the predicted standings.

Things are looking up for the Lions, as they open their spring campaign at 1:30 PM this Friday at USC’s Marks Stadium. The 2018 WCC Women’s Tennis Championship will take place at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif., April 26-28.
