After the CSULB Invitational Tournament, the Lions will return to action and to Long Beach, on January 28 to face Cal State Long Beach at 11 a.m.
The LMU women's tennis team wrapped up competition from the 2012 Beach Tennis Winter Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. on Sunday, competing in singles matches against Nevada and doubles against Cal State Northridge. Ana Lucia Fuentes highlighted LMU's day on the court, winning her first career match by way of a 3-6, 6-4 (16) victory over Nevada's Rymma Maslova.
The Lions found themselves in a number of tight matches on Sunday, as Tory Parravi and Elisaveta Pironkova battled Wolf Pack opponents tough in losses. Parravi fell, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6), to Sophie Stevens, while Pironkova dropped a decision to Juliette Legendre by scores of 6-7 (5), 6-1 (5).
In other singles action, Michele Okhremchuk defeated Miya Jin
, 6-3, 6-2, Emma Verberne took down LMU's Ashley Anderson
, 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Madison Wesseln
was bested by Iva Lep- cevska, 6-1, 6-1.
On the double side, the duo of Jin/Anderson dropped a decision to Sher/Man-Son-Hing, 8-1. Pironkova and Parravi battled Nigora Sirojiddinova and Anna Yang tough, but eventually fell, 8-4. Finally, LMU's Fuentes/Wesseln came up short against Pistalu/Walker from Cal State Northridge, 8-2.
Freshman Tory Parravi opened the season with a victory at Beach Tennis Winter invitational. Parravi defeated Anna Yang from Cal State Northridge (7-5, 6-4) to highlight LMU's first day of spring competition on Friday at the Rhodes Tennis Center in Long Beach, Calif.
Jamie Sanchez is a member of the LMU Hall of Fame. In his career, Sanchez was a four-year letter- winner in men's tennis and a member of the LMU Hall of Fame 1969 National Champion football team. Sanchez started the LMU women's tennis program and has served as the head coach since inception. He is a three-time WCC Coach of the Year.

No. 38 Long Beach State opened up the 2012 spring season by hosting the inaugural Beach Tennis Winter Invitational over three days, starting on Friday, January 20 at 11 a.m. in the Rhodes Tennis Center. There were some matches that went down to the wire, and some blowouts, but the final result always tilted toward the 49ers in the last day at the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational, as Long Beach State went 12-0 and finished the tournament with a 33-1 record in matches played.
Based on ITA College Tennis Rankings in singles play, the players to watch on Cal State Long Beach are Laura Bernard, No. 117, and Rachel Manasse, No. 122.
