MORAGA, Calif. -- The Lions dropped a close 4-3 decision for the second time this weekend, as the Gaels got the conference win over LMU on Sunday. The WCC competition continues to get harder as LMU had trouble with another pair of ranked opponents this weekend in No. 53 San Diego Friday and No. 42 Saint Mary’s Sunday. The Gaels improve to 12-8 overall and 7-1 in conference play after another big win over Pepperdine Friday, while the Lions drop to 10-9 and 2-4 in the WCC.
In doubles play, the Lions got off to a fast start and won the point quickly. April Bisharat and Claudia Razzeto won 8-5 on Court 1 first. Then, Kristine Kouyoumjian and Tory Parravi won 8-3 on Court 3 to secure the doubles point. The Gaels would win on Court 2 but that match would be inconsequential to the final score.
In singles play, Saint Mary’s got three quick wins on Court 1, then 4, then 2 to go up 3-1 in the match. But the Lions would fight back to tie up the score. Razzeto won 6-3, 7-6 on Court 2 and Miya Jin battled from a set down on Court 5 to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. The match would then be decided on Court 6, where Saint Mary’s would prevail in the third set to get the 4-3 team win over the Lions.
The Lions will play their final home match this Wednesday when they take on Pepperdine at 1:30 p.m.
