Los Angeles, CA - Loyola Marymount University's women's tennis head coach Jamie Sanchez was named as the WCC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row, following the Lions' first-ever WCC Championship on Sunday for an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs, along with six All-WCC selections from the Lions' roster.
Sanchez has been the Lions' coach over the entire 28-year program history, and has led the Lions to a program record of 360-311. This is the second year in a row for the LMU head coach to be given the honor, which is voted on by fellow WCC coaches.
On the singles side, LMU had four players named to the All-Conference roster. Junior Edit Pakay (18-6) and Senior Andrea Lord (21-10), who have been trading between the top two spots in the lineup, were both selected to the first-team All-WCC list. Juniors Penka Fileva (21-14) and Angelina Zdorovytska (15-7), who have spent most of the singles season at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, were both named All-WCC, honorable mention.
LMU doubles teams also made the list with the No. 1 duo of Lord and Zdorovytska (17-8) named to the first-team, All-WCC. The Lions' No. 2 doubles team of Julie Hladik and Pakay was named All-WCC, honorable mention for their season (9-7).
The Lions will next play in the NCAA Playoffs which are scheduled to begin the weekend of May 10.
