LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recognized three members of the Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team for academic excellence earlier this month. Soon-to-be sophomores Ana Lucia Fuentes and Madison Wesseln join recent graduate Elisaveta Pironkova on the list.
"This is a great honor for Elisaveta, Ana Lucia and Madison, and is a positive reflection on our team's commitment to academic as well as athletic excellence," said head women's tennis coach Jamie Sanchez. "We are extremely proud of their accomplishments on the court and in the classroom."
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria:
1.) be a varsity letter winner
2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year)
