LOS ANGELES, Calif. - First-year head coach Agustin Moreno announced earlier this month the hiring of one of his former University of South Florida players, Katie Vasenina, as an assistant coach within the LMU women’s tennis program. Vasenina played under Moreno from 2009-13 before most recently serving as the Assistant Tennis Director at Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club in Fresno, Calif.

Under her title at the Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club, Vasenina organized a USTA JTT Local League, coordinated club tennis tournaments and activities, developed junior tennis programs, and conducted tennis lessons. Prior to her position with the club, Vasenina spent six months as head men’s tennis coach at Fresno City College.

As a collegiate player, Vasenina was named All-BIG EAST in 2011 and 2012, and played at #1 singles in each of her final two seasons, reaching as high as #26 in the nation in singles play. A talented doubles player, she and her partner, Loreto Alonso-Martinez, peaked as the #12 team in the ITA rankings. Vasenina went 13-6 in singles play as a junior, earning an NCAA at-large bid.

A native of the Republic of Moldova, Vasenina was a standout player on the European junior circuit, finishing fifth in the Europe/Africa Zone Group III round-robin pool in 2009.

Vasenina earned her degree in international studies from USF in 2012 before finishing her masters in global sustainability in 2014.
