LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A busy weekend of tennis is on the horizon for both the men's and women's LMU tennis squads, as the men head to Malibu, Calif. for the 2011 USTA/ITA Division I Men's Southwest Regional Championships starting on Thursday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The women's Regional Tournament, hosted by San Diego State, kicks-off on Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

Most recently on the women's side, sophomore Miya Jin highlighted play for LMU at the Second Annual Gaucho Classic being held on the campus of UC Santa Barbara. The native of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. reached the final round of the A-Singles bracket, falling to Veronica Popovici of the University of Washington, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Jin recorded victories over UCSB's Paola Cos and April Scatliffe in the first two rounds. Swimming in a sea of Gauchos, Jin squared-off with UCSB's Natalia Lozano in the third round, defeating her opponent by scores of 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to advance the final round.

On the men's side, LMU last competed at the ITA Pre-Regionals in Irvine, Calif. from October 7-9. The Lions were led by a 3-1 record from Alex Wilton in singles, and a 3-1 mark from Daniel Simko and Robin Kiyabu in doubles. Wilton defeated Concordia's Hagemann (7-5, 6-7, 6-2), UC San Diego's West (6-4, 7-6), and UC Riverside's Gastao (7-5, 7-5), but lost to UCSB's Recknagel, (6-2, 6-2). Simko and Kiyabu defeated UC Riverside's Gastao/Roberts (9-7), Concordia's Guler/Macnamara (8-3), and UC San Diego's Ling/Yoshida (8-6), but lost to UCSB's Forget/Ndimande (8-4).
