LOS ANGELES -- The LMU women's tennis team ended their fall schedule on a high note at the 2nd Annual Jack Kramer Women's Collegiate Invitational last weekend in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Highlighting the tournament was the LMU doubles team of Miya Jin and Claudia Razzeto. In the opening round of 16, the Lions defeated Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran of Mississippi St. 8-5. Then, in the upset of the weekend, the unseeded LMU duo took down the #1 doubles team of Courtney Dolhide and Catherine Harrison of UCLA 9-7. In the semifinals, Jin and Razzeto beat Baylor's Megan Horter and Jordan Sanford by a convincing score of 8-3. The Lions' remarkable run came to an end in the tournament final when they lost 8-3 to the #2 doubles team of Emma Burgic and Victoria Kisialeva from Baylor.
April Bisharat and Tory Parravi were also in the doubles draw, but were paired up against UCLA's Holly Fleming and Kaitlin Ray in the first round where they lost 8-6. That pair from UCLA went all the way to the semifinals where they lost to the eventual championship pair from Baylor.
In the singles draw, Parravi withdrew due to injury in the middle of her match against April Scatliffe of UC Santa Barbara. Jin defeated UCSB's Erica Cano 6-2, 6-2 in the first round before losing to the #3 seed Laura Claus of San Diego 6-2, 6-3. Bisharat won 5-7, 6-1, 11-9 in a long, tough match with UCSB's Kiersten Meehan. In the second round, Bisharat faced the #4 seed Sanford out of Baylor, who she lost to 7-6, 6-3. Razzeto lost 6-3, 6-4 to the #7 seed MacKenzie Craft of Georgia.
In the consolation draw, Razzeto defeated Stacy Yam of UCSB 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 and also beat Pepperdine's Tara Panu 6-3, 6-4.
The Lions are now off until January 24, when the main spring season will begin at home against Cal State Bakersfield.
