Preparing for his first spring season as LMU women’s tennis head coach, Agustin Moreno recently announced the signing of two standout players who will join the Lion program in 2016. Elvira Juravliova (The Republic of Moldova) will join the Lions in January of 2016, while Caisey Lee Emery (El Camino HS) will come to LMU for the fall semester next year.

Juravliova, who hails from the same country as LMU assistant coach Katie Vasenina, is a seven-time champion in Moldova, and is a national team member for her homeland. She has represented Moldova in the European Championship for the last four years, and has been invited to play in the Fed Cup tournament. The aspiring business major has reached as high as #742 in the ITF rankings, and has played a handful of WTA Tournaments.

Emery, who played high school tennis at Buena High School due to El Camino not fielding a tennis team, went 85-2 in matches over her three seasons of high school tennis. As a junior in 2014, she won the Channel League singles title, becoming the first player in Buena history to earn the championship. For her efforts, she was named MVP of the league and Ventura County Player of the Year. As a senior in 2015, Emery went undefeated in singles play (28-0) and won a League doubles title with her sister, Colbey Shae Emery.

On the Junior circuit, Emery was the 2014 Esme Pearson Designated G16s Champion and a 2014 Double Sectionals G16 Champion and mixed finalist. She climbed as high as #15 in Southern California in the 16s rankings, and as high as #52 on Tennis Recruiting. The daughter of Nelson and Tara McLean Emery, she chose to commit to LMU because of the coaching staff, location, and the great education.

After finishing up the fall portion of the schedule, the 2015-16 season continues in January, as the Lions will host Cal State Northridge at 11 a.m. from the LMU Tennis Center.
