Laura Gustorf begins her fourth year at LMU…as team captain she leads the squad emotionally and spiritually both on and off the court…has moved from outside hitter to defensive specialist…a very aggressive athlete on the court …developed an incredible jump serve during the spring…will be one of many battling for the starting libero position.
Appeared in all 25 matches while making 20 starts on the year…led squad with 34 service aces and 296 digs throughout the season… recorded a career-best 22 kills on 42 attacks against San Francisco (Oct. 13)…collected a personal-best six assists against New Mexico (Sept. 8)…her seven aces against Indiana (Sept. 7) was not only a new career mark, but also set the LMU mark for aces in a four-game match…picked up 22 digs against Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 30) setting a personal-high…career digs per game average of 2.58 ranks her ninth in the LMU career record book…finished third in the WCC in service aces (0.38 apg) and digs (3.29 dpg)…named to the WCC All-Academic Team with a 3.72 GPA, the highest of all those chosen.
Played in all 29 matches while starting in 14…appeared in 97 games throughout the season…recorded double-digit dig totals in six games…season-best 16 digs came against San Francisco (Nov. 18)…recorded a season-high .375 hitting percentage mark against Pepperdine (Nov. 4)…finished the year fourth on the squad with 186 digs…was named to the WCC All-Academic team with a 3.64 GPA.
Played in all 31 matches and 108 games…second on the team with 278 digs on the year…that total ranks her fifth all-time among freshman in digs…had a season-best 20 digs against Texas-El Paso (Sept. 18), a team match-high for the season…finished fourth on the team with 17 service aces…pounded out 183 kills for a 1.69 kill per game average…stuffed Pepperdine with five solo blocks on Oct. 9, an individual season high…also set a personal-best six total blocks during that match…best kill performance came on Sept. 4 with 14 against George Washington…twice had double digit kills and digs, Sept. 17 against New Mexico (10 kills, 17 digs) and again on Sept. 18 against Texas Tech (11 kills, 11 digs).
Gustorf is a 1999 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, CA…a two-sport athlete, she lettered three years in both basketball and volleyball…served as volleyball team captain in her senior season…a three-time first-team All-SJAA selection…was voted Most Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete as a sophomore, junior and senior…led her team to the state finals in 1996…a CIF Scholar-Athlete in both volleyball and basketball…prep volleyball coach was Dodd Pinkham.
Laura Joan Gustorf was born in Stockton, CA on Feb. 1, 1981…the daughter of Jon and Patricia Gustorf…she has one brother, Kevin, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Allison…brother, Kevin, was a ‘98 LMU graduate and four-year baseball player…sister, Elizabeth, ran cross country for four seasons at Gonzaga…sister, Allison, was a ‘00 graduate of the LMU volleyball program…spent her summer helping with a high school summer school program…names bagels as her favorite food…was also recruited by Gonzaga, Virginia and San Jose State…a business administration major.
