LMU Sweeps SDSU 3-0
Sept. 13, 2005 Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount volleyball improved to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 at home after sweeping San Diego State 3-0 (34-32, 30-26, 30-21) Tuesday evening in Gersten Pavilion. The Lions also maintained their perfect record against Head Coach Steve Stratos's alma mater, moving to 5-0 all-time against the Aztecs. Three Lions tallied double-digit kills, led by sophomore Christianna Reneau, who posted a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Heather Hughes led all players with 16 kills. Senior co-captain Dina DeBernardi hit .588 with 11 kills on the match. Game one was as close as the match would get, as the score was tied 14 times. Both teams hit under .200, but LMU pulled out the 34-32 win led by DeBernardi's eight kills in the first game alone. The score was tied at 11-11 in game two, but two kills by Hughes helped the Lions take a five point lead they did not relinquish. Similarly in game three, the Aztecs evened the score at 15-15 before Cat Svorinich served the Lions to five straight points for the 20-15 lead. LMU secured the sweep with the 30-21 game three win. The Lions are back on the road this weekend, playing in the Cal State Fullerton Invitational with Southern Methodist, San Jose State, and the host Titans. LMU opens with the Mustangs Friday at 3:30 p.m. -GO LIONS-
