No. 13 LMU Completes Sweep of San Francisco
Lions defeat San Francisco to extend winning streak to five.

San Francisco, Calif. - No. 13 Loyola Marymount (22-3, 7-1 WCC) completed the WCC series sweep against previously-ranked San Francisco (19-5, 3-5 WCC) Friday evening, winning 3-2 (27-30, 30-24, 18-30, 30-26, 15-7) on the road. The victory extends the Lions' winning streak to five matches.
LMU jumped to an early 6-2 lead after scoring four consecutive points. But the Dons tied the game at 7-7 and never trailed again, taking advantage of a .450 team hitting percentage to take game one 27-30.
Game two saw the Lions hold San Francisco to a .044 hitting percentage. The teams traded advantages early, with the score being tied nine times. But LMU broke open a 12-12 tie game and erupted for a 12-2 run to even the contest a one game apiece.
San Francisco responded by building a 20-11 advantage in game three and would not let go, taking the game 18-30.
But the Lions fought to force a deciding game five, as two late-game kills by junior Kelli Nerison helped ensure the fourth game victory 30-26.
LMU used a four point run to take the 10-4 lead in the fifth game. The Lions went on to win the deciding game 15-7 to improve to 7-1 in West Coast Conference action.
Friday's win ensured the Lions' victory in San Francisco for the ninth consecutive year. Nerison led the Lions with 19 kills, seven blocks, and a match-high .378 hitting percentage. Sandy Krone and Kealani Kimball each added double-double performances for LMU.
The Lions will take on Saint Mary's Saturday evening in Moraga at 7:00 p.m. LMU won the first meeting 3-2 at the WCC opener for both teams on October 3rd in Gersten Pavilion.
