Former Redondo Union All-American Transfers to LMU

Following one season at UC Santa Barbara, Megan Rice has elected to transfer to LMU for her sophomore campaign. Rice, a 5-11 native of Redondo Beach, Calif. was a third team AVCA All-American as a senior at Redondo Union High School.

While with the Gauchos, Rice appeared in all 29 matches her freshman year, totaling 134 kills on 420 swings. A solid blocker, she registered nine block solos and 34 block assists, averaging .49 blocks per set. Listed as an outside hitter, Rice served up a pair of aces from the service area.

“We are very excited to announce the addition of Megan Rice to our program this fall,” LMU head coach Aaron Mansfield said. “Megan is an exceptional athlete that has the potential to be one of the top attackers in our conference. Her explosiveness, matched with her willingness to learn and get better, will allow her to accomplish great things for our programs both indoor and on the beach. We cannot wait to start working with Megan in August.”

In three seasons under coach Tommy Chaffins at Redondo Union, Rice led the Sea Hawks to three straight league titles and back-to-back appearances in the CIF-SS Finals.

As a senior, Rice was named to's Top 125 Senior Ace list while also being named Redondo Union Power Classic All-Tournament co-MVP, a SoCal Prep Legends Athlete of the Week, and was named All-Tournament at the Ann Kang Invitational. She also led her team to the Division I Championship after finishing with 244 kills with a .362 hitting percentage, averaging 4.90 kills per set as a senior.

As a junior, she was named first team All-Bay League and received her team’s most improved player award for the second consecutive season. She led her team to a CIF Southern Section Div. 1AA Championship, the CIF Southern Region Division I Championship, and CIF Division 1 State Championship that same year.
