20th-Ranked Women's Volleyball Named Blimpie/Hoosier Invitational II Champions With 3-0 Win Over Marquette
Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 17, 2000 - The 20th-ranked Lions defeated Marquette University, 3-0 (15-11, 15-8, 15-13), and were named the Blimpie/Hoosier Invitational Champions yesterday in Bloomington, Ind. Seniors Sarah McFarland and Allison Gustorf earned all-tournament honors; McFarland also brings home her third consecutive MVP award.
The Lions (8-1 Overall/0-0 WCC) bounced back from their loss to Duke to take the decisive win over Marquette (1-10 Overall). McFarland recorded a match-high 30 kills and posted an impressive .393 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jaimee Brubacher followed McFarland with 12 kills and finished second on the team in that category.
LMU returns to action next weekend as it travels to Notre Dame, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational. The Lions take on tournament host Notre Dame to start things off on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. CT.
