Senior Kathleen Luft was named WCC Player of the Week on Monday after guiding LMU to a 2-0 week, including victories over San Francisco and Santa Clara, to start West Coast Conference play. The selection is the second of her career after being honored on November 12 of last year. In addition to Luft, LMU men's soccer also garnered the WCC Player of the Week in that sport, as junior midfielder Juan De Rada was lauded.
Luft collected 35 kills over the two matches (4.38 per set) while hitting .380. She also posted a pair of aces in the match against Santa Clara, including one to force match point in the five-set victory over the Broncos. She then collected the match-winner as part of her season-high 23 kill performance on Saturday.
Luft collected 12 kills with just two errors on 25 swings (.400) in a sweep of San Francisco before notching the 23 kills with just three errors on 54 attacks (.370) against Santa Clara. She finished the week with eight total blocks, including three block assists against San Francisco and five more against the Broncos.
De Rada scored three goals over the weekend in leading the Lions to a 1-0-1 record. After becoming a United States citizen earlier that day, De Rada scored a pair in leading LMU to a 4-0 blanking of Sacramento State on Friday. Two days later, his strike tied the match with UC Davis in the 33rd minute. De Rada's nine point weekend marked his first points of the 2013 season.
